Microsoft says its Xbox TV app will make its debut this month but will be limited to a subset of Samsung monitors and TVs. Based on the company’s Xbox Cloud Gaming platform, the app will allow Xbox Game Pass Ultimate customers to access over 100 games.

However, the Xbox TV app will only be available for Samsung smart TVs that launched in 2022. Microsoft has not yet said if it will expand the app to more TVs and brands. Of course, Microsoft and Samsung already enjoy a wide-ranging partnership that includes Office apps on Samsung smartphones.

It is worth noting that 100 games is less than the over 400 currently available on Game Pass. Just like Xbox Cloud Gaming, the Xbox TV app will place no resource load on the hardware. Instead, Microsoft’s own Xbox Series X hardware will power games through the cloud.

Microsoft is bringing the app to the Samsung Gaming Hub on its new model TVs on June 30, with 27 countries getting the app.

While Xbox controllers will obviously be supported, users can choose between a wide selection of other gamepads. Among them is Sony’s DualSense control from the PlayStation. In terms of technical performance, the display will be capped to 1080p and 60fps. So, even if you do have a 4K

Microsoft is keeping vague on wider availability in the future:

“We are bringing the Xbox App to Samsung Smart TVs first, and our intent is to explore other TV partnerships as part of this next evolution in our vision,” explains Ashley McKissick, corporate vice president of Xbox gaming experiences and platforms.

That means your device may work with reduced performance while the update is downloading. In our guide, we show you how to limit bandwidth for Windows Update downloads, so they won’t bother you again.
