Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 11 Preview Build 22518 to Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel. As usual, there are several improvements and updates. Leading the way are new tools for Voice Access tools and changes with the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
Starting with Voice Access, which is a new addition for the Voice Typing feature on Windows 11. If you are unfamiliar, Voice Typing launched with Windows 1, allowing users to dictate words onto the platform.
Voice Access is a new component that extends the capabilities. Specifically, users can now use their voice for commands on the OS and control devices too. For example, enter text and numbers into apps or to control aspects of Windows 11. For example, open apps, select buttons, and choose menu items.
For example, voice access supports scenarios like opening and switching between apps, browsing the web, and reading and authoring mail. Voice access leverages modern, on-device speech recognition to accurately recognize speech.”
Microsoft says the tool works with or without an internet connection, but it is currently only available in US English. We hope by time the tool leaves preview the number of languages will increase.
It is worth checking out Microsoft’s blog for Windows 11 Preview Build 22518 to see all available voice commands supported by Voice Access.
Microsoft made a big change to Windows Subsystem for Linux back in October, bringing the tool to the Microsoft Store. With the latest Windows 11 preview, users can now switch the wsl.exe-install command to allow the WSL app on the Microsoft Store to become the default.
Tip of the day: The Windows Clipboard history feature provides the functionality across device, space, and time, letting you copy on one computer and paste the text days later on a different PC. All of it is possible via the Windows 10 clipboard manager, which lets you view, delete, pin, and clear clipboard history at will.
In our tutorial we show you how to enable the feature, clear clipboard history, and enable/disable clipboard sync to meet your preferences. You can also create a clear clipboard shortcut for quick removal of stored content.
