Microsoft-Edge-Citations

Microsoft Edge has an interesting new feature that Microsoft is announcing today. Known as “Citations”, the tool gives the web browser a new way to manage references. Microsoft is currently rolling out the new ability in preview through the Canary and Dev builds of Edge.

As you might guess, Citations allow Microsoft Edge users to create and manage citations for their research. While the tool is available for every user, it will be most helpful to students and researchers.

Edge will act as an automatic tool for generating citations. Of course, students often need to cite the source of their work, especially at college/university level. Referencing can sometimes be confusing, especially if heading back to find references later.

When it comes to then fitting those references into accepted formats such as APA or format, students often make mistakes. Microsoft says Edge can solve these issues with automatic extraction and generation of citations.

Preview

The company points out Citations currently only works on a limited number of journals and websites for now. As the preview expands and comes to full release, the number of resources will increase. It is worth noting users can add unsupported websites themselves and Edge will generate a citation.

In its announcement most, Microsoft offered the following guide for enabling the Citations feature in Edge:

“Students can try it out by opening Collections and selecting “Turn on citations” from the 3-dot menu. Once turned on, students can view citations by clicking on the quote mark icon on the articles within their collection. The quotation mark icon opens the citation pane where students can copy and/or edit the article’s citation in the format they previously selected. “Citations” in Microsoft Edge supports both in-text and full citations.”

Tip of the day: If your PC keeps connecting to the wrong WiFi network, you can set WiFi priority to avoid the need to manually select access points over and over again.
