It has been a busy few days on the Microsoft Defender front, with the security platform starting to preview on Windows 11. Now, Microsoft is also announcing Microsoft Defender for Business, which is soon landing in preview.

Microsoft made the announcement in an official blog, saying the app is for Office and Microsoft 365 business customers. Jon Maunder, product marketing manager for Microsoft 365, says Microsoft Defender for Business features tools to help enterprises stay protected:

“[It is] specially built to bring enterprise-grade endpoint security to businesses with up to 300 employees, in a solution that is easy-to-use and cost-effective.”

Customers will be able to purchase Defender for Business as a standalone product, at a code of $3 each month per use. Maunder points out Microsoft has observed a 300% rise in ransomware attacks during the last year, with over 50% targeting small organizations.

“Defender for Business elevates security from traditional antivirus to next-generation protection, endpoint detection and response, threat and vulnerability management, and more. It offers simplified configuration and management with intelligent, automated investigation and remediation. Defender for Business helps you to protect against cybersecurity threats including malware and ransomware across Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices,” Maunder adds.

The new app protects against threats while also placing vulnerability management in the control of businesses through attack reduction, antivirus tools, and remediation. Microsoft also says Defender for Business does all the heavy lifting, so organizations do not need learn how to use the tool.

Other features include endpoint detection, automation, manual responses, and detection.

“The product includes simplified client configuration with wizard-driven set up and recommended security policies activated out-of-the-box, allowing you to quickly secure devices. Easy-to-use management controls and actionable insights help you to save time and prioritize tasks,” Maunder says.

“Defender for Business is designed to deliver maximum security value at a price point that works for your business. The simplicity of it allows you to onboard and manage endpoint security with low operational overhead, and less burden to learn complex cybersecurity concepts to get your business secured.”

Defender for Business is available to customers who subscribe to the Microsoft 365 Business Premium package.
